Lowvyn Extension v6.0.0: What Changed
The Lowvyn browser extension v6.0.0 brings automatic product detection, Lowvyn Score in the popup, faster price refresh, and better support for international retailers.
Overview
We shipped version 6.0.0 of the Lowvyn browser extension this week. This is the biggest update since launch, with changes to how products are detected, how prices refresh, and how the extension handles international retailers. Here is what is new.
Automatic product detection
You no longer need to click the extension icon to check if a product can be tracked. When you visit a product page on Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy, the extension now detects it automatically and shows a small badge on the toolbar icon. Open the popup and you will see a banner with the product name and a one click Track button.
This makes tracking faster. Browse normally, and when you land on something worth watching, the extension is already ready.
Lowvyn Score in the popup
Tracked items from Canadian retailers now show their Lowvyn Score and Deal Verdict directly in the extension popup. The score is a number from 0 to 100 that tells you how the current price compares to its history. The verdict gives you a plain language summary: "Good Deal", "Average", or "Wait".
Previously you had to visit the Lowvyn website to see this information. Now it is right in the popup alongside the price.
Faster price refresh
The "Refresh All" button has been rebuilt. Items that are synced with the Lowvyn server now refresh through our API instead of fetching each retailer page individually. This means a refresh that used to take 30 seconds or more now completes in a couple of seconds for server synced items.
For items tracked locally, the extension fetches prices in parallel batches of five instead of one at a time. If any individual fetch fails (retailers sometimes block automated requests), it gets skipped instead of stopping the entire refresh. The popup now shows you exactly how many items were refreshed, like "Refreshed 19/21 items (2 skipped)".
International retailer support
The extension has always worked on amazon.com, walmart.com, and other international Amazon storefronts. But prices were stored with incorrect currency codes, and in some cases the data would sync to the Lowvyn server where it did not belong.
Version 6.0.0 fixes this properly. Every supported Amazon domain (18 in total, including amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.co.jp, and others) now maps to the correct currency. A product tracked on amazon.co.uk shows prices in GBP, not CAD.
Items from non Canadian retailers are tracked locally in your browser. They will not sync to the Lowvyn server or receive Lowvyn Scores. This keeps the server data clean and avoids mixing currencies in price histories. Non Canadian items show a subtle "Non-CA retailer" badge so you know the difference.
Sync improvements
When you sign in to your Lowvyn account on the extension, it now pulls your tracked items from the server. If you tracked products through the Lowvyn website or dashboard, they appear in the extension popup automatically. Previously, the extension only pushed items to the server but never pulled them back.
Other changes
Category data. The extension now extracts the product category from retailer pages (using breadcrumb navigation) and sends it to the server during sync. This helps Lowvyn classify products correctly.
Best Buy badge colour. Best Buy items now use a yellow badge instead of blue, so they are easier to distinguish from Walmart items at a glance.
Updated About page. The About tab in the extension has been rewritten with a proper description of what Lowvyn does, what features are available, and how Canadian and international retailers differ.
How to update
If you already have the extension installed, it should update automatically through the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons. You can also visit lowvyn.com/browser-extension to install it for the first time.
