Baby monitors range from $50 to over $400 in Canada

The baby monitor market in Canada covers a wide range. A basic audio monitor costs around $50. A mid range video monitor with a dedicated screen runs $100 to $250. A premium smart monitor with HD video and phone connectivity can cost $300 to $430.

Most parents end up in the $100 to $200 range for a video monitor. At those prices, a well timed purchase can save $30 to $80 without any compromise on the product you actually want.

Best Buy Canada has the strongest monitor selection

This is something that surprised us when we started tracking. Best Buy Canada carries a wider selection of baby monitors than Amazon.ca or Walmart.ca, and their pricing is often competitive.

If you are shopping for a baby monitor, Best Buy is worth checking even if you typically buy baby gear elsewhere. They stock brands like VTech, Infant Optics, eufy, and Nanit that are not always easy to find at the same prices on the other retailers.

Amazon.ca has the most volatile baby monitor pricing of the three retailers. Prices can change by $20 to $40 in a single week. Walmart.ca sits in the middle, with more stable pricing and occasional Rollback events.

Video monitors vs audio monitors: pricing differences

Audio monitors are inexpensive and their pricing is mostly stable. There is not much to track. If you see one for $30 to $50, that is roughly what they always cost.

Video monitors are where price tracking makes a real difference. A VTech video monitor that typically sells for $149 might drop to $109 during Prime Day or Black Friday. A Nanit Pro that normally costs $329 might drop to $269. These are meaningful savings on a product you are going to buy regardless.

Smart monitors (Nanit, Owlet, Miku) have the widest price swings. These higher priced monitors see the biggest absolute discounts during sale events, sometimes $50 to $80 off.

When baby monitor prices drop

Prime Day (July). One of the best times to buy a baby monitor, especially on Amazon.ca. VTech and Infant Optics models see consistent discounts. Best Buy often matches or beats Amazon's Prime Day prices on monitors they stock.

Black Friday (November). All three retailers discount baby monitors during Black Friday. This is the other reliable window for real savings. Best Buy tends to be especially aggressive on monitor pricing during Black Friday.

Boxing Day (December). Good for clearing out older monitor models. If a new version is coming, the previous model drops significantly.

Random mid week drops. Baby monitor prices on Amazon.ca fluctuate more frequently than most baby categories. We regularly see prices dip for a few days then go back up. Price tracking catches these dips that you would miss if you only check during major sales.

Popular baby monitors we track

VTech. The most popular baby monitor brand in Canada by volume. Their video monitors cover the $80 to $200 range and go on sale frequently.

Infant Optics. Known for the DXR-8 series. Premium pricing but reliable discounts during sale events.

eufy. Strong value option in the $100 to $180 range. Prices fluctuate often on Amazon.ca.

Nanit. Premium smart monitor. Rarely on sale, but when it does drop, the savings are significant. Worth tracking for several months if you want one.

Owlet. Combines monitoring with health tracking. High price point with occasional discounts.

How to find the best baby monitor price

  1. Decide on your type first. Audio, video with dedicated screen, or smart monitor with phone app. Each category has a different price range and different pricing patterns.

  2. Compare across all three retailers. This is especially important for monitors because Best Buy's selection and pricing are strong in this category.

  3. Check the Lowvyn Score. A score above 70 means it is a good time to buy. Below 40 means the price is elevated.

  4. Look at the price history. Some monitors have steady prices with sharp dips during sale events. Others fluctuate constantly. The history chart tells you which pattern applies to the monitor you want.

  5. Set a target price. If you are not in a rush, set a target in the Lowvyn extension and wait for the price to come to you.
