Lowvyn Browser Extension: Updates, Current Limitations, and Future Plans

A few weeks ago, we shared the launch of the Lowvyn browser extension and the thinking behind it. We seek to help you make more intentional shopping decisions without adding friction to your day. Since then, we have released an updated version. Below is an overview of recent improvements, current limitations, and our next steps.

What's New in the Latest Version

The latest version of the Lowvyn browser extension now supports additional major retailers, including Walmart and Best Buy, in addition to Amazon.

This means:

  • Lowvyn's insights are now available on more product pages.
  • You no longer need to switch between sites or applications.
  • The extension remains lightweight and fast.

In summary, Lowvyn is now available on the sites you already use.

A Transparent Note on Pricing Accuracy

We want to be transparent about an important limitation.

Right now, Lowvyn does not have access to official product APIs from Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy.

This means:

  • We parse product web pages directly to extract price and product details.
  • This approach is effective in most cases; however,
  • Prices may occasionally be inaccurate or delayed, particularly when retailers:
    • Change layouts
    • Run flash sales
    • Personalize prices
    • Load prices dynamically

We recognize this is not ideal and are committed to addressing it.

Why We're Still Doing It This Way

Currently, Lowvyn is in its early stages. As with many small teams, access to official retailer APIs depends on:

  • Demonstrating real user traffic
  • Showing consistent retailer engagement
  • Meeting partner requirements that cannot be bypassed

On a positive note, as usage increases, we are optimistic that sustained traffic to retailer sites via Lowvyn will support our efforts to obtain official product API access over time.

Once achieved, this will significantly improve pricing accuracy and reliability.

No Cashback (Yet) and That's Intentional

Another important clarification:

Currently, Lowvyn does not receive cashback, affiliate fees, or commissions from retailers.

There are:

  • No hidden incentives
  • No prioritization of products that "pay us more."
  • There are no undisclosed monetization practices influencing the information you receive.

At this stage, Lowvyn is focused on learning, improving accuracy, and building trust, rather than generating revenue.

Monetization will be introduced in the future and, when implemented, will be:

  • Transparent
  • User-first
  • Aligned with supporting better decision-making rather than encouraging additional purchases

Where We're Headed Next

Our near-term focus is simple:

  • Improve parsing accuracy and resilience.
  • Expand support across more product categories.
  • Learn from real usage patterns.
  • Build the case for official retailer partnerships.
  • Provide the interoperability between browser extensions and the Lowvyn website by adding user profiles.

Lowvyn remains in early development and continues to evolve, but we are making steady progress.

If you have used the extension, your feedback, especially regarding any issues, directly informs our future improvements.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
